YAVATMAL/CHANDRAPUR: Two tigers killed two persons in adjoining districts of Yavatmal and Chandrapur in last 24 hours. In the first incident a problem tiger killed a farmer of Adan village in Ralegaon tehsil of Yavatmal district on Saturday taking the toll to nine.
Adan is 10km from Wadki under Pandharkawda Forest Range. Deceased Chandku Futki (50) was killed by the tiger near a farm which he was guarding.
After a frantic search Chandku’s half-eaten body was found 3km away from the farm.
After getting information, forest officials took the body under their custody. But, the villagers refused to claim it back unless ‘shoot at sight’ order was passed, prompting asst PCCF (wildlife) Shreeram Babu to rush to the spot from Nagpur and pacify the villagers.
According to DCF KM Abharna of Pandharkawda, last year four persons were killed followed by five this year taking the toll to nine so far. “Tomorrow a high-level meeting will be held where a final decision on the problem tiger will be taken,” Abharna said.
In Chandrapur, 50-year-old Kamal Nikode was killed by a tiger near Dayagondi Gangizora forest area in Sindewahi tehsil when she had gone into the forest to collect tall grass for making brooms on Saturday evening.
Her mutilated body was recovered on Sunday morning by a search party. Her legs, hand and head were found separately in partially eaten condition.
